Collection: Decking Ropes

Our decking rope collection brings together a range of natural and synthetic options to suit any garden or landscaping project.

Without doubt our first choices for decking are PolyHemp ropes. We always advise customers to consider these first because they look like natural ropes and suit the garden, but are in fact synthetic. This means they will not rot like a natural rope, keeping their strength and appearance for many years.

Some people have chosen one of our wonderful, coloured PolySilk ropes as a funky design feature. Those who want to have a natural rope might go for Manila or Jute.

Whether you're building handrails, defining borders, fitting barrier ropes or adding rustic detail to decking, we've got a rope to suit. All are easy to knot and work with, and available in a variety of diameters.

Supplied by the metre or in full coils, with fast UK delivery on every order.

How to attach decking rope

Measure right

The easiest way is to use a bit of string. Hold it up against the posts and create the swag effect you like best. Remember to add in extra length for any knots, metal fittings, etc.

  • Add an extra 40-50cm for any knots you intend to tie in the rope
  • Add 10-15% to account for any shrinkage (applies to natural fibre ropes only)
  • Deduct around 9cm for each metal hook or eye plate used

We sell by the metre, so always over-measure rather than under-measure. We really do not want to sell you more rope than you need, but there's nothing worse than being 50cm short.

All of our decking ropes are sold by the metre, which means it’s really easy to order the right amount for your specific project – without any unnecessary waste or cost. For landscapers looking to buy in bulk, we also stock PolyHemp, Jute and Manila in 220m coils.

Drill the holes right

The diameter of the hole will always need to be larger than the diameter of the rope, otherwise it is likely to ‘bunch’ up when you attempt to feed it through. So we strongly advise you wait for the rope and fittings to arrive and then drill a test hole in some old wood first.

  • Wait for the rope to arrive
  • Drill test holes first
  • The diameter of the hole will always need to be larger than the diameter of the rope
